The Filtered Abstraction series (2017) takes into consideration the worn and deserted aesthetics from various destroyed and abandoned locations of urban exploration through documentation that distorts the realistic scenes into abstract compositions through filters attributed prior to photographic development. Through use of filter-like materials placed over the camera’s lens, my hope is to distort each image’s texture and quality of objective distinction through controlling the production of visual elements added such as streams of light, softness of edges, and distortions of color. These elements are provided by the means of combining layers of visual interest that I hope will entice the viewer and deliver a unique perspective of abandoned ruin.
